There is a generation of beer drinkers who were won over by the IPAs that came out of Northern California in the 1990s and early 2000s. The aggressive use of native Pacific Northwest hops late in the boil boosted the hop aroma and flavor of these beers. The concept marched North along the coast to Oregon and Washington, resulting in beers that were much more complex and drinkable than their bitter and chewy sweet cousins from the east. California Love uses 5 hops from the Yakima Valley that deliver an intense pine aroma with notes of resin, grapefruit and a touch of orange. The aroma carries to the flavor then cleanses your palate with a firm, clean bitterness that leaves you wanting more. This is a throwback IPA that will remind you of a beach with a cool breeze in your face and the sun setting on your glass, reminding you this type of beer was your first love. If this is your first experience with old school West Coast IPAs, enjoy your break from the tropics.
