A TRIBUTE TO THE MUNICH ORIGINAL

We decided to craft a very strong lager that was first brewed in Munich to be consumed by the fasting monks of St. Francis of Paula during Lent. It was their “liquid bread” and sole source of sustenance. When the brewery was secularized, it was named Paulaner, and the beer named Salvator, “the Savior”. There was already a strong lager from Einbeck known as bockbier or “bock”, and with a need to categorize everything in Bavaria, this even stronger beer was dubbed “doppel (double) bock” by Munich consumers. Our Detonator Doppelbock is a tribute to the original starting with Munich malt, German noble hops, clean Bavarian yeast as well as ending the name in “-ator” as a shout-out. The extra long lagering period enables the smooth yet complex malt profile to shine with toasted bread crusts, dark fruit, and even a hint of chocolate in both the flavor and aroma. While deliciously malty, Detonator is not sweet, and the smooth alcohol cleanses your palate while warming your beer heart. You could sustain yourself on Detonator for 40 days however I think this one won’t last that long. Prost!
